ROLE: FUNDRAISING, MARKETING & PROMOTION ASSISTANT FOR THE WOMEN’S HEALTH INFORMATION & SUPPORT CENTRE (WHISC) 120 Bold Street Liverpool L1 4JN

The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC) is a charity dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and their families throughout Liverpool and the surrounding areas.

‘Those who have lost a partner or child, women who have suffered abuse, been in prison, women who have been diagnosed with a serious and life changing illness or condition, women struggling to cope with mental illness, women who have lost a partner or child, women suffering from low self-esteem & self-confidence, depression, lack of money, lack of a safe place to live, women who are asylum seekers and refugees who find themselves in an area where they know no one at all. All women who are socially isolated and those who are lonely and simply need a cup of tea and a chat’.

The ages of the women that we see range from 18 to 90 years.

This role involves working with the Fundraising Officer to raise funds on behalf of WHISC.

This may be through working in the local community, via increasing legacy giving or through unique sponsorship, events or something else. A background in fundraising would be advantageous. You will need to be able to produce copy and help with promotion utilising formal and informal channels.

You will represent WHISC with members of the public and colleagues from various sectors.

This role is vital to boosting charitable giving.

This role also involves assisting the Outreach Worker with delivery of sessions at various community-based locations. Duties can include small group facilitation and giving practical assistance in the delivery of sessions as well as answering questions and providing information about the work that WHISC does.

WHAT WE NEED: Hours Mon-Sunday 10-7pm We ask for at least 3 hours a week volunteering time. In-house training will be provided.

This volunteering role involves dealing with women who are members of the public who want to find out more about WHISC either for themselves, people that they work with or for friends and family.

The role also includes a range of other duties including answering the phone, administrative duties, helping clients to find appropriate health information and signposting to appropriate services where necessary.

Time will be spent at the Centre too to help you gain knowledge about the services that are offered. You will also need to assist in the monitoring of service provision.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • An interest in women’s health
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Non-judgemental & empathic
  • Sound communication skills in listening, speaking and writing
  • Assimilation skills to help absorb and make use of wide ranges of information and data
  • A commitment to participation in training and self-evaluation.

DESIRABLE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience in a fundraising role.
  • Knowledge of the charitable sector.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of the work that WHISC does.
