WHISC. For All Women.
The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC) is a charity dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and their families throughout Liverpool and the surrounding areas.
Last year we had contact with over 13,500 women and provided over 2,500 ‘Listening Ear’ sessions, a no-appointment-needed service for women in distress.
Established in 1984, our experienced and professional team guarantee a warm and friendly welcome, offering an extensive range of information, support and guidance services.
Our busy, city centre Drop-In is the hub of all our services. Here women can join free exercise classes or sign up for health courses. Drop in or call for a chat today.

‘The help and support was amazing when I needed it most and the understanding and
encouragement guided me back to the real world when I felt adrift. 4 years on and I still
credit the amazing women at WHISC and all the amazing women I met on a variety of
courses and through working there who supported me and helped me, for the life I now
have’.
‘I just wanted to say how helpful I found the Strength & Support group on Wednesday. I had
been feeling really mentally unwell with stress and anxiety the day before and on
Wednesday morning and I can honestly say that I felt so much better and calmer and
hopeful after attending the group’.
‘I wandered in off the street one day, quite literally, and I couldn’t speak for a few minutes. But immediate understanding was there and after a sit down and water and sympathetic murmurings from staff I left with some leaflets to consider. Within 3 days I’d signed up for several courses and my journey began. I recommend your service to everyone I meet who may feel lost or know a woman who is. Keep up the good work. Women in Liverpool need you! Xx’.
‘It has helped me cos I like talking to people – Makes me feel better I forget that I am so
depressed, I love coming’.
‘Just attended the Stress Course, very good. WHISC are providing very good opportunities for
local people to take up. It’s ideal for them to be located in the Vauxhall Health Centre so as
to access local people in a much deprived neighbourhood’.
I have only had one session but already know I will grow in confidence and self-assurance.
Have been given very useful tools to keep me aware of myself’
‘WHISC has been amazing helping me with coping – more with my anxiety and depression’.
‘You’ve saved my life you know, really you’ve saved my life. Just coming here every week
and then going home and telling my husband what we’ve discussed – it’s been so good
helping me to think of different points of view. I have good days now. I have bad days but I
know they are getting less’.
‘Helped me with the loss of my Mum and my other problems’.
don’t believe there is much more they could do, as they have a great service. Since I first
walked through the door, I felt calmer & relaxed. Thank you for being there and listening to
Helped me with my depression, able to talk about my life and having the one-to-one’.
