WHISC’s volunteers form an integral part of the team. We offer a wide range of volunteering roles.


How You Can Get Involved

Due to the pandemic, all positions are under review awaiting WHISC being able to re-open to the public.

Health Fair Representative

This role involves attending various health information events at community based locations around Liverpool and occasionally other parts of Merseyside. WHISC will provide information leaflets and display stands for volunteers. This role is vital to publicising the services offered by WHISC.

Fundraising, Marketing & Promotion Assistant

This role involves helping our fundraising officer to raise much needed funds for WHISC services. This will include attending and organising fundraising events. Collecting donations and liaising with local businesses to make fundraising links. In this role you will also be required to help organise raffles, donations and crowdfunding.

Outreach Session Assistant

This role involves assisting the Outreach Worker with delivery of sessions delivered at community based locations. Duties can include small group facilitation and giving practical assistance in the delivery of sessions.

Activity & Skill-Based Volunteer

This role is varied and could cover health related activities such as yoga, keep-fit, walking, drama, or beauty treatments such as manicures, etc. We are open to suggestions.

Support Group Facilitator

This role involves facilitating support groups which meet at WHISC regularly. The groups that currently meet include: Eating Disorder Support Group, Strength & Sadness, and a Menopause Support Group. This role involves providing one-to-one confidential support to women who attend the Drop-In. WHISC Listening Ear volunteers do not provide counselling and the support is often short term.

Drop-In Volunteer

This role involves dealing with members of the public who either telephone or call into WHISC with various health enquiries at our Bold Street Drop-In Centre. The role includes helping clients find appropriate health information and signposting to appropriate services where necessary. Drop-In volunteers must accurately record service users in accordance with WHISC monitoring procedures. Some Drop-in volunteers go on to train so that they can provide service users with a ‘Listening Ear’.

Promotion & Marketing Volunteer

This role is varied and includes promoting the work of WHISC, designing flyers, creating window displays, making gift bags, exploring opportunities for media promotion, social media, branding, plus keeping a yearly log of events such as Women’s Day, World Mental Health Day, Ester, etc.

Saturday Club Volunteer

This role involves providing support to women who attend the Drop-In on a Saturday 11-2pm. Promoting the integration of all women.


This role involves staffing the reception desk at the Bold Street Drop-In Centre. Duties include meeting and greeting visitors to the WHISC premises and establishing the reason for attending. Receptionists must accurately record Centre visitors in accordance with WHISC monitoring procedures.


This role involves photocopying, answering telephone calls, preparing information for outreach sessions, maintaining information systems, filing, recording post and typing. The administration role also involves collating monitoring statistics and updating the database which records the number of service users at WHISC.

Digital Inclusion Volunteer

This role involves showing service users how to get online, set up an email address, and surf the web. A good knowledge of the internet and online safety is advantageous.

WHISC provides a rolling programme of volunteer training events covering different issues throughout the year.
