ROLE: CENTRE VOLUNTEER – RECEPTION, ADMINISTRATION & DATA ENTRY FOR THE WOMEN’S HEALTH INFORMATION & SUPPORT CENTRE (WHISC) 120 Bold Street Liverpool L1 4JN

The Women’s Health Information & Support Centre (WHISC) is a charity dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and their families throughout Liverpool and the surrounding areas.

‘Those who have lost a partner or child, women who have suffered abuse, been in prison, women who have been diagnosed with a serious and life changing illness or condition, women struggling to cope with mental illness, women who have lost a partner or child, women suffering from low self-esteem & self-confidence, depression, lack of money, lack of a safe place to live, women who are asylum seekers and refugees who find themselves in an area where they know no one at all. All women who are socially isolated and those who are lonely and simply need a cup of tea and a chat’.

The ages of the women that we see range from 18 to 90 years.

This role involves working within the Centre providing a range of administrative duties including reception.

This role involves dealing with members of the public who telephone or call into WHISC with various enquiries at our Bold Street Centre.

This role involves staffing the reception desk at the Centre. Duties include meeting and greeting visitors to the premises and establishing the reason for attending. Receptionists must accurately record Centre visitors in accordance with WHISC monitoring procedures.

This role also involves photocopying, answering telephone calls, preparing information for outreach sessions, maintaining information systems, filing, recording post and use of computer. The administration role also involves collating monitoring statistics and updating the database.

You will represent WHISC with members of the public and colleagues from various sectors.

WHAT WE NEED: Hours Mon-Sunday 10-7pm We ask for at least 3 hours a week volunteering time. In-house training will be provided.

This volunteering role involves dealing with women who are members of the public who want to find out more about WHISC either for themselves, people that they work with or for friends and family.

The role also includes a range of other duties including answering the phone, administrative duties, helping clients to find appropriate health information and signposting to appropriate services where necessary.

Time will be spent at the Centre too to help you gain knowledge about the services that are offered. You will also need to assist in the monitoring of service provision.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • An interest in women’s health
  • IT skills
  • Friendly and outgoing
  • Non-judgemental & empathic
  • Sound communication skills in listening, speaking and writing
  • Assimilation skills to help absorb and make use of wide ranges of information and data
  • A commitment to participation in training and self-evaluation.

DESIRABLE SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience of working in a public facing role.
  • IT Qualifications.
  • Data Management.
  • Knowledge of the work that WHISC does.
