Communication Skills workshop – Tuesday 5th June 10am – 12 noon

Women’s Health in Hard Times – Are you struggling to look after your health on a tight budget? 

This 6-session course aims to give you ideas and support to keep you mentally and physically well in hard times. We can’t wave a magic wand, but we can offer tips and support on the following topics:

~Stress Management   ~Self–Esteem
~Relaxation techniques   ~Communication skills
~Healthy Eating on a Budget   ~Household Budgeting Skills

The next course starts on Tuesday 5th June 1-3 pm for six weeks


Women’s Health Training Course 

WHISC has delivered a Women’s Health Training Course for over 20 years from the Information Drop-In Centre. Each year we have 32 places available on the course which is accredited through the Open Awards (6 Credits, Level 2). The course has enabled many women, who have no previous or recent qualifications, to gain confidence and improve their employment prospects. The course runs for 16 weeks, usually during term time and covers issues such as stress, menopause, patients’ rights, relaxation, and much more. There is a £27 administration charge for this course which covers centre registration, accreditation and certificate. Courses begin September and February of each year.

Stressbuster Course 

A four week course (four 2 hour sessions in total), aiming to improve quality of life by raising self-esteem and self-confidence in a supportive and safe environment. It covers the impact of stress on your life and its links with negative health behaviour, finding positive ways to deal with stress, the difficulties involved in behaviour change, identifying obstacles and support for behaviour change, and making plans for behaviour change. This course is free.

The next course starts on Tuesday 12th June 10-12 for four weeks.

Writing Helping As Therapy (WHAT)

The course aims to help you enjoy the experience of self-expression by writing, which can be fun as well as therapeutic. No particular writing skills are required nor will you be expected to show your work. Instead, the emphasis is on using what you write as a means of improving your self-awareness and self-esteem and helping others do the same. As such, confidentiality and trust are of prime importance to us – as is your commitment to attend all 6 sessions. The course is free.

Weigh To Go

An eight-week course addressing healthy weight management with the support of others in the same position. You will learn skills to help manage your weight for the long term and develop a healthier relationship to food and physical activity. This course is free.

The ‘Do It’ Project 

This course is for women over the age of 18, unemployed, looking to return to work or between jobs, and eligible to work in the UK. It will assist them to set goals, increase self-esteem, reduce stress, learn new skills, prepare a CV, and present themselves effectively at interview. It consists of a combination of group work, one-to-one support, and three hours of voluntary work at WHISC every week (for three months). There is also the opportunity to undertake NVQ Level 2 Customer Service Skills or attend WHISC’s accredited Women’s Health Training Course (see above). Please contact us for availability.

Make Peace With Food And Your Body

This is a 6-week programme helping participants to gain a better understanding of their struggle with food, discover self-acceptance, and free themselves of their struggles. The course is aimed at – but not exclusive to – plus size women. Together, we will work gently and respectively to discover what participants are really hungry for and how they can begin to feel good in the body they are in. There is a £10 registration fee for this course. Please contact us for availability.


When times are hard it’s easy to lose confidence. This half-day workshop will explore how to think well of yourself and get your self-esteem back.

Eating On A Budget

How to have good health, energy and well-being when money is tight. This new half-day workshop will explore how to eat well on a budget.
