Yoga has been hitting the headlines again.
In recent weeks:
- The Daily Mail have reported a story about ‘goat yoga‘ (it turns out its just yoga on a farm surrounded by goats rather than involving the goats themselves!).
- Education Minister Edward Timpson said children should be taught yoga as part of the PSHE curriculum
- A mum became a hit on Instagram when she posted photos of her practicing yoga whilst breast feeding,
- Research by Sweden’s Prison and Probation Service indicates that weekly yoga sessions help improve prisoners’ behaviour.
However, even for the more mundane and well-behaved amongst us, yoga has proven benefits.
For instance, the NHS claims studies indicate that yoga increases physical activity, strength, flexibility and balance; helps reduce depression and stress; and is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains
Perhaps this helps explain why WHISC’s Wednesday Beginners Yoga class is always so popular? Which is fabulous news but perhaps not so good for those who turn up to find all the places gone.
The good news is that, from 26th September, WHISC will be starting another Yoga class!
Yoga For Wellbeing will focus on improving strength, flexibility and relaxation practices.
This FREE class will be lead by Rosanna every Monday, 4.30-5.30pm.
