Fortunately, especially when on hot summer days like this, WHISC gets to go out and about in the community.
On Saturday 9th July, Friends of Warbreck Park very kindly invited us to join in the fun at their Family Fun Day.
Entertainment included a DJ, inflatable assault course, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse! There were also a variety of displays, and historic societies talking about the origin of the area.
Attending the event allowed us to spread the word on WHISC’s services available to all women which, just in case you weren’t aware, include: support groups, training courses, exercise classes, counselling, and therapies.
We also had a volunteers’ day out at Sudley House on Wednesday 13th July.
The tour guides at the house were excellent, treating us to very informative but entertaining talks about the house and its artwork – including the current exhibition, Putting On The Ritz.
Of particular interest to me was Mrs Tinnie, in whom I recognised a kindred shopaholic! If you’ve never heard of her, then get yourself down to Sudley House and see her fantastic collection of clothes!
Volunteers were also treated to tea and cake in the courtyard and, happily, the weather was gloriously sunny… much the same as today!
As a relative newbie, it was also an opportunity for me to socialise and get to know the other volunteers much better and I have to conclude everyone here is lovely!
I am sure that is why my outlook on life has improved since I started volunteering at WHISC. Not only do I get to help other women but I also get to work with lovely, open-hearted, people. Who wouldn’t want that in their life?!!
If you would like to volunteer at WHISC, why not have a look at our Volunteering page and get in touch?
